Stanford 7 Pittsburgh 6

Stanford 7 Pittsburgh 6 in Rose Bowl 1928

Stanford (7-2-1) edges Pittsburgh (8-0-1) by the margin of a Biff Hoffman conversion, 7-6, because Coach "Pop" Warner maintains faith in Frankie Wilton. Wilton's blocked punt costs Stanford victory in 1927 and his fumble allows Pitt's Jimmy Hagan to scoop it up and run 17 yards to score this day. Walt Heinicke blocks the extra point try of Pitt's Allen Booth. During Stanford's resurgence Bob Sims is separated from the pigskin on Pitt's two-yard line. Wilton picks it up and scores.

UCLA Football: What needs to be done for the Bruins to play for a Pac-12 Title It may be early in the season, but the odds still favor UCLA to represent the South in the Pac-12 Championship this fall. Today in MSU History: State Beats the Eventual Rose Bowl Champs Mississippi State knocks off the Washington Huskies, who went on to win the Rose Bowl in 1977. In 1977, Mississippi State was coming off a 9-2 season where their only losses came at Tuscaloosa and at Gainesville.  There was a lot of hype in Starkville, and after a 17-15 win in the opener against North Texas State, Bob Tyler and the 16th-ranked Bulldogs headed to Seattle to play the Washington ...
